Telangana Highlights Life Sciences Strength at BioAsia 2025 with Genome Valley Tour

Published:

Hyderabad, February 24, 2025 – Telangana solidified its reputation as a leader in the life sciences sector today, welcoming over 150 delegates to BioAsia 2025 with an immersive guided tour of Genome Valley, India’s premier life sciences research and manufacturing hub located near Hyderabad. The visit, a highlight of the annual conference, offered a firsthand look at the state’s cutting-edge advancements and robust ecosystem tailored to industry needs, reinforcing Telangana’s growing stature on the global healthcare stage.

The delegates, split into three groups, explored some of the most prominent facilities in Genome Valley. The first group toured Bharat Biotech, known for its pioneering work in vaccine development, and Vimta Labs, a leader in analytical and testing services. The second group visited Syngene International Limited and Biological E Limited’s Pharma Unit, both key players in biopharmaceutical innovation and production. Meanwhile, the third group gained insights into operations at JAMP Pharma Group and Indian Immunologicals Ltd., showcasing the diversity and depth of Telangana’s life sciences cluster. The tour concluded with a visit to Takshila Tech Parks & Incubators, a hub fostering innovation and collaboration in the sector.

This year’s BioAsia, themed “Catalysts of Change – Expanding Global Healthcare Frontiers, Transforming Healthcare with Innovation, Collaboration and Progress,” promises to be a landmark event. Kicking off with the Genome Valley tour, the conference will feature a powerhouse lineup of speakers over the next two days, including Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Queensland Governor Dr. Jeannette Young, G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant, and India’s Minister of Industry and Supplies, Piyush Goyal. These dignitaries will be joined by global industry titans, setting the stage for high-level discussions on the future of life sciences and healthcare.

The agenda, spanning February 25 and 26, includes eight sessions and a CEO Conclave, with participation from luminaries such as Robert A. Bradway, Chairman and CEO of Amgen; Professor Patrick Tan, Executive Director of the Genome Institute of Singapore; Dr. Ken Washington, CTO of Medtronic; and Dr. Boris Stoffel, Managing Director of Miltenyi Biotec. These leaders, alongside representatives from other global healthcare organizations, will delve into the latest developments, opportunities, and challenges shaping the industry, with a particular focus on the intersection of artificial intelligence and life sciences.

Telangana’s Minister for Industries and Commerce, Sridhar Babu, expressed pride in the state’s achievements, stating, “We are thrilled to showcase our premier life sciences research and manufacturing clusters to national and international delegates at BioAsia 2025. The next two days will feature an exceptional speaker lineup and a strong emphasis on AI in life sciences, making this the most significant BioAsia yet.” His sentiments were echoed by Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary for Industries & Commerce and Information Technology, who highlighted the event’s role in fostering innovation: “BioAsia 2025 offers a platform to display Telangana’s thriving ecosystem while sparking forward-looking conversations that will propel the sector’s growth.”

Shakthi Nagappan, CEO of BioAsia and Director of Telangana Life Sciences, underscored the state’s leadership in merging technology with life sciences. “Today’s tour provided delegates with a window into our robust ecosystem,” he said. “With global leaders converging here, BioAsia 2025 is poised to be a defining moment for Telangana and the global healthcare community.”

BioAsia has long been a magnet for global attention, drawing influential figures and industry stakeholders to Hyderabad. Past editions have hosted Nobel Laureates, Lasker Awardees, and luminaries like Bill Gates of the Gates Foundation, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Johnson & Johnson’s Alex Gorsky, Novartis CEO Dr. Vas Narasimhan, and Medtronic’s Geoff Martha. This year’s event builds on that legacy, cementing India’s—and Telangana’s—role as a hub for biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical technology, and healthcare innovation.

The Genome Valley tour not only showcased operational excellence but also highlighted Telangana’s strategic vision. Home to over 200 companies, including global giants and innovative startups, the cluster has become a cornerstone of India’s life sciences ambitions. Investments in infrastructure, such as Takshila Tech Parks, and a supportive policy framework have fueled its growth, attracting both talent and capital.

As BioAsia 2025 unfolds, the focus will shift to the conference halls of Hyderabad, where delegates will grapple with pressing issues: How can AI accelerate drug discovery? What role will collaboration play in expanding healthcare access? And how can innovation address global health challenges? With Telangana at the helm, the answers may well emerge from this vibrant crossroads of science, industry, and policy.
