Althion, a Hyderabad-based watertech startup, has successfully raised Rs 3.6 crore (approximately $426,000) in its pre-Series A funding round. The investment was led by BioAngels, the investment arm of the Indian Angel Network (IAN), along with prominent individual investors including Arun Seth, Om Manchanda, KNK Venkatraman, and Shubham Rastogi.
This round follows Althion’s earlier fundraising efforts, having raised $180,000 from the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP) and other investors.
Founded in 2017 by Surya Rao, Althion specializes in creating ultra-pure water systems that cater specifically to critical sectors such as healthcare, research, and semiconductor industries. With a focus on providing high-quality, cost-effective water solutions, the startup is already empowering dialysis centers, biotechnology labs, and leading hospitals across India.
“At Althion, we are committed to bridging the gap between high-cost water purification systems and the needs of critical industries. With the support of our investors, we are well-positioned to scale our solutions and provide affordable, high-quality ultra-pure water to key sectors, from healthcare to research,” said Surya Rao, Founder of Althion.
Althion’s products are designed to meet the stringent purity requirements of dialysis, laboratory research, and semiconductor manufacturing, where the quality of water is crucial for operational success. The startup’s innovative technology not only delivers superior water purity but also aims to reduce operational costs, a significant concern in these sectors.
The funding will be used to scale operations, enhance product offerings, and expand the startup’s market presence. With the backing of its investors, Althion plans to grow its footprint and further solidify its position as a leader in the ultra-pure water technology space in India.
In a statement, BioAngels noted, “Althion’s unique approach to solving a critical problem in healthcare and other high-demand industries demonstrates the company’s potential for large-scale impact. We are excited to support their journey as they expand their product offerings and reach across the country.”
As the demand for ultra-pure water continues to rise across industries, Althion’s innovative solutions are poised to play a key role in transforming the way India addresses its water purification challenges in vital sectors.
