Johnson Matthey Opens New Engineering Centre in Mumbai

London, October 16, 2024: Johnson Matthey (JM), a global leader in sustainable technologies, has announced the opening of its new Engineering Centre in Mumbai, India. This expansion reaffirms JM’s commitment to India as a strategic partner for manufacturing and engineering.

The new centre will leverage India’s engineering talent to enhance JM’s capacity to deliver projects for its customers across its core licensing business and emerging areas in hydrogen, sustainable fuels, and chemicals.

Maurits van Tol, Chief Executive for Catalyst Technologies at Johnson Matthey, expressed his enthusiasm for the new centre. “India is internationally renowned for its engineering talent and expertise,” he said. “We’re excited to continue our long history in India and welcome more local talent into the JM family.”

The new centre will play a crucial role in supporting India’s ambition to reach net zero by 2070. It will focus on developing projects that reduce carbon emissions from fuel, power generation, and hard-to-abate sectors.

Ramsundar Solaimalai will lead the new centre, and its opening was celebrated with an exclusive reception at the British High Commission in Mumbai. The event brought together many of India’s most prominent decision-makers in one of the world’s fastest-growing markets.

Harjinder Kang, His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for South Asia and British Deputy High Commissioner for Western India, praised JM’s investment in India. “This new facility is another testament to the UK’s strong commitment to accelerating clean growth by working alongside indispensable partners like India,” he said.

Johnson Matthey has a long-standing presence in India, dating back 60 years. The company employs over 1,000 people across its eight operating sites in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Haryana.
