IndiaAI Datasets Platform to Launch by January 2025

Published:

New Delhi, India – The IndiaAI Datasets Platform, a key component of the government’s Rs 10,000 crore IndiaAI Mission, is set to go live by January 2025. This announcement was made by Nand Kumarum, chief executive of the National eGovernance Division (NeGD), at an event in the national capital.

Inspired by the US-based platform HuggingFace, the IndiaAI Datasets Platform aims to create a collaborative and open-source environment where developers can access, share, and utilize datasets and AI models to build their own applications.

“The idea primarily is like HuggingFace – you have models, you have datasets, and you have people coming up and using those datasets and building models. We are trying to do something similar,” Kumarum said.

The platform will feature datasets from central and state governments, as well as the private sector. The NeGD is actively working on partnerships with private entities to contribute to the platform’s vast repository.

While building a repository of thousands of datasets and models comparable to HuggingFace will take time, Kumarum assured that the basic framework will be operational by the end of January at the latest.

The IndiaAI Mission, announced by the electronics and information technology ministry in March, comprises six pillars: compute capacity, future skills, an innovation center, application development initiative, startup financing, and safe and trusted AI. The NeGD plays a crucial role in providing the technological infrastructure for the ministry’s egovernance projects.

Kumarum also highlighted the potential applications of generative AI in government operations. He mentioned that AI can be used to draft requests for proposals, improve office productivity, and facilitate comparisons of state policies. Additionally, AI trained on building, road, and irrigation system norms can automate verification and approval processes.

The launch of the IndiaAI Datasets Platform marks a significant step towards realizing the government’s vision of establishing India as a global leader in artificial intelligence.
