Uber Technologies announced on Thursday a partnership with autonomous technology startup Avride to enhance its food delivery and robotaxi services. This collaboration marks a significant step as Uber expands its network of self-driving technology partners.
In recent weeks, Uber has bolstered its ties with Waymo, the robotaxi unit of Alphabet, and has formed new alliances with General Motors’ Cruise and the Chinese company WeRide. The move signals Uber’s commitment to integrating autonomous solutions into its operations.
Starting in the coming weeks, Uber Eats will introduce sidewalk delivery robots from Avride in Austin, with plans to expand to Dallas and Jersey City, New Jersey, later this year. Additionally, Uber Eats has a similar partnership with Serve Robotics for deliveries in Los Angeles.
Both Uber and Avride aim to launch robotaxi services in Dallas next year. Customers using the Uber Eats or ride-hailing app may soon have the option to fulfill their orders using either an Avride delivery robot or an autonomous vehicle.
Dmitry Polishchuk, CEO of Avride, stated, “We plan to expand the total fleet of Avride robots operating within Uber Eats to hundreds in 2025, followed by the launch of our robotaxi service.”
This partnership highlights Uber’s strategy to innovate its delivery and transportation services while embracing the future of autonomous technology.
