New Delhi, India – Telecom giant Airtel has unveiled a groundbreaking new service aimed at combating the rising tide of spam calls and messages. The company’s innovative solution, powered by artificial intelligence, is designed to significantly reduce the number of unwanted communications that reach its customers.
This first-of-its-kind service from an Indian telecom provider will proactively alert users to potential spam calls and SMS messages in real time. The best part? The service is completely free and will be automatically activated for all Airtel customers, requiring no additional steps or downloads.
Gopal Vittal, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Bharti Airtel, emphasized the company’s commitment to protecting customers from the nuisance of spam. “Spam has become a major annoyance for our customers,” he stated. “We’ve invested heavily in developing a solution that can effectively shield them from these intrusive and unwanted communications.”
Airtel’s AI-powered spam detection solution employs a two-pronged approach, utilizing both network-level and IT systems-level filters. This robust system is capable of processing an astonishing 1.5 billion messages and 2.5 billion calls daily, analyzing a staggering 1 trillion records in real time.
The solution has already proven its effectiveness, identifying over 100 million potential spam calls and 3 million spam SMS messages on a daily basis. Airtel’s dedication to customer security is evident in its relentless pursuit of innovative solutions to combat the growing threat of spam.
Developed by Airtel’s team of data scientists, the AI-powered solution utilizes a proprietary algorithm to accurately identify and flag suspected spam calls and messages. By analyzing various factors such as caller behavior, call frequency, and call duration, the system can effectively detect and prevent unwanted communications.
Airtel’s solution also extends its protection to malicious links received via SMS. The company maintains a centralized database of blacklisted URLs, scanning every incoming SMS to warn customers before they click on harmful links.
Additionally, the system is equipped to detect unusual activity, such as frequent changes in a device’s IMEI number, which can be indicative of fraudulent behavior. Through these comprehensive layers of protection, Airtel aims to provide its customers with maximum defense against the growing threat of spam and fraud.
