Amul Issues Clarification Amid Controversy

Published:

Dairy giant Amul has stepped forward to clear the air regarding recent claims circulating on social media platforms about the use of Amul ghee in the preparation of prasada at the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD). The company firmly denied having ever supplied ghee to the renowned Tirumala temple in Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati district.

Amul issued an official statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday in response to the viral posts suggesting that Amul ghee was being used by the temple. The clarification came amid growing concerns and allegations that the temple’s offerings contained animal fat, sparking outrage among devotees.

The company’s statement read: “This is in reference to some social media posts mentioning that Amul Ghee was being supplied to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD). We wish to inform that we have never supplied Amul Ghee to TTD.”

The controversy began after unverified claims on various platforms led to confusion and concern among the temple’s visitors and devotees. However, both the temple authorities and Amul were quick to address the issue.

Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam is one of the most visited Hindu pilgrimage sites, and its laddu prasada, made with ghee, is considered sacred by millions of devotees. Any suggestion of contamination or the use of animal fat in its preparation could lead to a significant backlash.

As of now, TTD has not released an official statement regarding the social media posts or the ongoing controversy, but Amul’s clarification aims to dispel any misinformation regarding their involvement.

The temple management, along with local authorities, is expected to take further steps to ensure transparency about the ingredients used in the temple’s prasada preparation.

Social Media Response
Amul’s post on X received widespread attention, with users expressing relief over the clarification. Many netizens praised the company for swiftly addressing the matter. However, some social media users called for further investigations into the claims surrounding the ingredients used in the temple’s prasada.
