In a significant move to enhance digital connectivity, Telangana’s IT Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu announced that residents in nearly 9,000 villages across the state will soon receive free internet services with speeds of up to 20 Mbps. This initiative is part of the state government’s ambitious T-Fiber network project aimed at bridging the digital divide and fostering growth in rural areas.

During a recent press conference, Minister Sridhar Babu emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that every village is connected to the internet. “Access to high-speed internet is no longer a luxury; it is a necessity for education, healthcare, and economic development,” he stated. The initiative aims to empower rural communities by providing them with the tools needed to thrive in the digital age.

To support this endeavor, the Telangana government has requested Rs 9,000 crore from the Central Government to link an additional 5,000 villages. This funding is critical for expanding the infrastructure necessary to deliver reliable internet access to underserved areas.

The T-Fiber network, which has already made significant strides in urban areas, will now focus on extending its reach to rural regions, ensuring that people can access online resources, educational content, and e-governance services.

Local residents expressed enthusiasm about the initiative, recognizing the transformative potential of reliable internet access. Villagers believe that free high-speed internet will open new opportunities for education, online businesses, and telemedicine, significantly improving their quality of life.

As the Telangana government pushes forward with this initiative, it aims to set a precedent for other states to follow, showcasing the importance of digital connectivity in fostering inclusive growth. With the T-Fiber project, Telangana is taking significant steps toward a more connected and empowered future for its rural population.
