In a strategic move to cater to India’s growing demand for premium transportation, Uber is set to relaunch its high-end service, Uber Black, in the country. The service, which initially debuted in India in 2013, will make its return in the coming weeks, beginning with select localities in Mumbai, according to sources familiar with the development.
Uber Black will be reintroduced with a focus on sustainability and luxury. Unlike its previous iteration, which featured high-end brands like Mercedes, BMW, and Audi, the revamped Uber Black will utilize larger sport-utility vehicles (SUVs) and multi-utility vehicles (MUVs) from brands such as Toyota and MG. This shift aims to provide a more premium experience with a white glove service in vehicles that are bigger than the standard commercial sedans currently offered.
The new Uber Black service is expected to be priced 30-40% higher than Uber’s existing top-tier option, Uber Premier. This price adjustment reflects the enhanced features and the targeted corporate travel market, which Uber anticipates will drive substantial demand for the service.
The reintroduction of Uber Black underscores the growing consumer appetite in India for premium and exclusive transportation options, as the market for high-end experiences continues to expand.
