Google Launches Gemini AI Assistant App in India, Enhancing Digital Assistance in Local Languages

Published:

Google, under the leadership of Sundar Pichai, has launched its Gemini AI assistant mobile app in the Indian market, offering users a versatile tool for tasks ranging from complex data analysis to everyday assistance.

The Gemini app allows users to interact via typing, voice commands, or even image uploads to receive tailored assistance. According to Google, this launch represents a significant stride towards building an AI assistant that is conversational, multimodal, and deeply helpful.

In addition to the standard Gemini app, Google has introduced Gemini Advanced, featuring access to its most sophisticated AI models. Both versions now support nine Indian languages: Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. Moreover, Gemini Advanced incorporates capabilities like data analysis, file uploads (up to 1,500 pages), and integrated chat functionalities within Google Messages.

Users of Gemini Advanced can upload documents for quick summaries, receive personalized feedback, and gain actionable insights. For data analysis, the app supports uploading spreadsheets, which it cleans, explores, and visualizes into interactive charts and graphs.

The expansion into India is part of Google’s broader rollout strategy, which includes recent launches in Turkey, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.

Accessing Gemini is streamlined for Android users who can download the app directly or activate it through Google Assistant with gestures, voice commands, or shortcuts. An overlay experience provides contextual help on-screen, enhancing usability for tasks like setting reminders and making calls.

iOS users will soon access Gemini directly from the Google app, empowering them to leverage its productivity and creativity features seamlessly.

Google emphasizes that files uploaded to Gemini remain private and are not used for training AI models, ensuring user data security.

The introduction of Gemini in India underscores Google’s commitment to enhancing digital accessibility and productivity across diverse linguistic and operational needs.
