Hyderabad, February 28, 2024 – Telangana’s biotechnology sector received a monumental boost during the two-day BioAsia 2024 conference held at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC). Hon’ble Chief Minister of Telangana, Shri Revanth Reddy, announced a groundbreaking investment of INR 1 lakh crores aimed at propelling the state’s biotech industry to new heights.
The investment is set to fuel the development of pharma villages in strategic locations including Vikarabad, Medak, and Nalgonda districts. Additionally, plans include expanding Genome Valley across 300 acres of land, further solidifying Telangana’s position as a global hub for biotechnology innovation.
This significant investment underscores the state government’s unwavering commitment to fostering an ecosystem conducive to biotech research, innovation, and manufacturing. By creating pharma villages, Telangana aims to generate employment opportunities and drive socio-economic development, particularly in rural areas.
Furthermore, international collaborations took center stage at BioAsia 2024, emphasizing Telangana’s global standing in the biotech arena. Key among these collaborations are partnerships between pharmaceutical giants Takeda and Biological E for the production of 50 million doses of dengue vaccines. These partnerships are expected to address critical public health needs and enhance global access to life-saving vaccines.
The conference also witnessed the inauguration of a pioneering facility by Miltenyi Biotec for cell and gene therapy, marking a significant milestone in medical research and treatment. This state-of-the-art facility is poised to spearhead cutting-edge research, offering hope for patients with complex medical conditions.
