Ikea Sets its Sights on Delhi NCR for E-commerce Debut by Late 2024

Published:

In an ambitious move aimed at capturing a larger market share in India, Swedish furniture behemoth Ikea has laid out plans to commence its e-commerce operations in the bustling Delhi NCR region. This strategic decision is seen as a prelude to the brand’s intention to inaugurate two sprawling shopping centers over the next 24 months.

The revelation was made public by Susanne Pulverer, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ikea India. Highlighting the company’s aggressive expansion blueprint for the Indian market, Pulverer stated that the online sales in Delhi NCR are set to kick off by the culmination of 2024.

But that’s not all on Ikea’s agenda. As the brand readies itself for this significant leap in one of India’s premier regions, it’s simultaneously working on bolstering its presence across other key metros in the country. This expansive strategy also dovetails with the company’s push to enhance local sourcing, a move likely aimed at fostering stronger ties with local artisans and suppliers, ensuring supply chain resilience, and possibly gaining pricing advantages.

Pulverer’s announcement offers a glimpse into Ikea’s commitment to its Indian customer base. It’s evident in the whopping INR 10,500 Cr the company has funneled into the country so far. This formidable investment has borne fruit in the form of five contemporary and spacious Ikea stores that are already serving customers.

While the impending launch in Delhi NCR will surely attract attention, it’s worth noting that Ikea isn’t entirely new to the Indian online retail landscape. The furniture titan has already carved out digital spaces for itself in several major cities. Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Gujarat, and Bengaluru are among the places where consumers can currently browse and buy Ikea products from the comfort of their homes.

As the landscape of Indian retail evolves, driven by a mix of online and offline experiences, Ikea’s upcoming foray into Delhi NCR’s ecommerce scene will surely be one to watch.
