Zomato Releases First-Ever Delivery Partner Wellbeing Survey, Records 78.3 Score

Published:

New Delhi, Aug 28, 2025 — Food-tech giant Zomato on Thursday released the results of its first Delivery Partner Wellbeing Survey, highlighting satisfaction levels and challenges faced by gig workers on its platform. The study, conducted by Nielsen IQ, surveyed 3,107 delivery partners across 35 cities and recorded an overall wellbeing score of 78.3 out of 100.

According to the report, delivery partners expressed high satisfaction with order delivery experience (82%), payouts and earnings (81.6%), diversity and respect (80%), and attire and assets (80%). Medium satisfaction was noted in grievance redressal (78.6%), long-term engagement (76%), knowledge acquisition (74%), health and safety (73.3%), and financial inclusion/social security (73%).

“Our delivery partners aren’t at the edge of Zomato – they’re at the core. This survey gives us their unfiltered voice, and acting on it is not optional for us,” said Zomato CEO Aditya Mangla.

Zomato has rolled out several welfare initiatives in recent years, including 24/7 SOS ambulance services, First Responder training, EV rental support, income tax filing assistance, and maternity benefits for eligible women partners.

Founded in 2008 by Deepinder Goyal and Pankaj Chaddah, Zomato began as a small venture digitizing restaurant menus under the name Foodiebay. Despite early struggles convincing restaurants, securing funds, and managing operations, the startup rebranded as Zomato in 2010 and later expanded into food delivery, eventually becoming one of India’s most recognized consumer tech companies.

Industry experts say the survey reflects a growing recognition of gig workers’ role in the food delivery ecosystem. With India’s food delivery market expanding rapidly due to urban demand, digital payments, and cloud kitchens, platforms are under pressure to balance growth with the welfare of delivery partners.

“Delivery partners form the backbone of our business,” said Anjalli Ravi Kumar, Chief Sustainability Officer, Eternal, adding that the survey could serve as a blueprint for gig economy platforms to strengthen worker support systems.
